Fursuit Care Guide
Importance of Cleaning
Cleaning is quintessential in ensuring that your fursuit's longevity.
A light cleaning is recommended even after a single wear to ensure the suit is sanitary and smelling its best! Never forget to brush your suit before, during, and after cleaning!
Cleaning the Head
Light Cleaning
A light cleaning is quick and easy to do to keep the interior and exterior of your suit looking great while you are running around at conventions of events! A fursuit scent/cleaning spray is recommended for this, as they are tailored for quick sanitizing, with a refreshing after scent. Be sure to take care when spraying around the eyes. Spraying a foot or two away from the head is the best way to ensure the eyes will not be damaged. Of the inside, a quick couple of spritz on the inner lining should do the trick!

Deep Cleaning
Deep cleaning is a longer process that may take a few hours to be completed. Most of that is waiting time. For either of these methods, be sure to protect the eyes by placing either paper towels or a spare rag overtop of them. Be careful when working around the eyes, as these paper towels and/or rags are only a preventative measure and are not supposed to get wet.
EXTERIOR
If you have a green machine, that is the quickest and easiest method to getting the exterior of the head deeply cleaned. A mix of roughly 1:8 gentle detergent and water is recommended.
If you do not have a green machine, a rag with a solution of 1:8 gentle detergent and water can be used or even fursuit soap. Use the rag to soak up some of the detergent water/fursuit soap water and gentle work it into the suit. Once all of the exterior is scrubbed, take a new rag with only water and begin to scrub over the head to get the soap out. This step may have to be repeated 2-3 times before all of the soap is out of the head. To dry the head, leave it in front of a running fan.
INTERIOR
For the interior, a more sanitizing method is necessary, as this is where the sweat will collect. A 50-50 solution of water and rubbing alcohol is recommended to truly sanitize and clean the lining and the foam. Again, be careful in soaking around the eyes, as even from the inside they are vulnerable. Put the solution into a spray bottle and spray it onto the inner lining of the head. You have sprayed enough when the lining is damp to the touch, but not soaking wet. To dry the head, place it on top of a fan or place the opening of the head towards the fan.
Cleaning the Body, Hands, Feet, and Tail
Light Cleaning
A light clean on the other parts of the suit are exactly the same as the head! Using a fursuit spray to quickly spray down the interior and exterior of these parts helps keep the suit sanitized and smelling nice at conventions and in-between short low activity usage.
Deep Cleaning
A deeper clean may take up to a day to complete, so be sure you clean with ample time before wearing your suit again! There are two methods for deep cleaning a fursuit. The tub method, and the washer method.
Tub Method
This is recommended for bodysuits with attached feet. Fill a bathtub with lukewarm water and put about a capful or two of gentle detergent into the tub and swish it around. Then, place the parts of the suit into the tub and scrub the soapy water into the parts. Then, drain the tub and squish out all of the excess water. If you have a detachable shower head, use that to rinse out the suit by spraying it with water and continuing to squish the water out. If not, place each part in the line of water and continue to squish the soapy water out of the suit. Once all of the soap is out of the suit, squish as much water as possible out before hanging it up to dry. Using a fan or two to dry the parts is highly recommended.
Washer Method
The washer method is quite straight forward. Place the suit parts into the machine (all suit parts minus the head, unless otherwise stated, are machine washable). Use gentle detergent and make sure the machine is set to 'delicate', or a no heat setting is selected. Afterwards, the suit can either be put in a dryer on a no heat setting or hung up to dry. Using a fan or two to dry the parts is highly recommend if a dryer is not used.
